We have been very busy this year and want to share some of what we're up to with our network, including upcoming courses opening for registration soon.
Sankalpa Exhibition
Building Personal Worth And Connection
We have now completed two out of three modules of our Erasmus project, as part of a Europe-wide project with the aim to use recovery education to empower and connect people with lived experiences of mental health and/or substance use issues. The first module was our Connect, Create, Participate course which you may have seen advertised. Through this course, participants worked together to create the key concepts for delivering a recovery education course in their community (as well as connecting to their own and each other's experiences and building community with each other). Participants then had the option to do facilitation training, in order to develop skills for delivering courses. Now, we have two of our lovely graduates, Wendy and Robert, who are going to facilitate the course created in the first module, which will be called Building Personal Worth and Connection. The course will run on Friday mornings, from May 25th for 6 weeks, until June 30th. How exciting!
Course Enrolment: To register for this course, please fill in this form and specify "Building Personal Worth and Connection" in the "course you would like to apply for" question. Please note, places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Menopause Course
We have a very exciting course coming up next month at the Recovery College, the brainchild of Paula and Deborah, two lovely members of the RC team. This course will explore the journey of menopause for those interested in this interesting and challenging time. It will be facilitated by experts in menopause and mental health, and it will run for 4 weeks from May 23rd to June 18th. You can register for the course here, please put "menopause course" in the relevant answer box.
In partnership with our friends in Sankalpa, we're hosting an art exhibition in the the main foyer of the Nursing Building in DCU main campus (off Collins Avenue) on the 4th of May. The event will showcase stories of recovery from substance use & mental health through expressive arts and visualizations.
The exhibition will be open to the public throughout the day on the 4th of May with presentations taking place at 1pm and 5pm.
Join us in this celebration of recovery with guest speakers, live music and light refreshments.

Trauma Informed Ballymun
We are working with Trauma Informed Ballymun to deliver our Trauma Informed Communities workshop twice over the coming month in Ballymun. These workshops are for anyone living or working in Ballymun and aim to generate conversation around community trauma specific to Ballymun, and explore the future of what Ballymun residents see as ways towards building a trauma informed community in Ballymun. Registration for this is being handled through Trauma Informed Ballymun. If you are a Ballymun resident or work in Ballymun, you can email roisin@ballymundtf.ie to register.
As part of this project, Liam and Triona spoke on the podcast Ballymun Does Recovery, about trauma and recovery. You can listen to that on Spotify here.

Over the last 6 months we have been involved in capacity building work around Trauma Informed Communities and Dual Diagnosis in the North East Inner City.
- We have hosted a series of community forums on Dual Diagnosis, with an aim to mapping out an integrated care process for people struggling with mental health and substance use issues in the North East Inner City. We will finish this mapping process over the next few months and have an event to launch the interactive map.
- We have delivered two Trauma Informed Communities trainings
- We will deliver two Dual Diagnosis upskilling workshops for people working with people with substance use and mental health issues. Places are fully booked but you can register for the waitlist here if you are living or working in the North East Inner City.
Recovery Academy Ireland
Our friends at Recovery Academy Ireland are now recruiting for their 2023 round of Recovery Coach Training. Information and Application Pack can be accessed by emailing info@recoveryacademyireland.ie . Places are limited. Closing date for applications is May 25th.
CORE Ireland
Our partners at CORE Ireland just launched their Summer Magazine, with lots of great information and news. You can read it online here.
Dual Diagnosis Oireachtas Subcommittee
Recently, Em and Liam from the Recovery College, along with fellow advocates for Dual Diagnosis in Chrysalis and Sankalpa, spoke at an Oireachtas subcommittee on dual diagnosis. It was an interesting discussion and hopefully has opened some peoples' perspectives up a little in regard to this topic that is still widely not understood in mainstream society. You can watch or read the conversation here.
That's not even a full list of our ongoing shenanigans, but hopefully it's enough to give you an idea of what we're up to without overwhelming you with too much information! Always feel free to reach out with any queries you have. Your support is valued and appreciated!
Kind Regards
The DNNE Recovery College Team
