I am currently a student in Maynooth University studying Community and Youth Work. I have the privilege of experiencing my first student placement with the Dublin North, North East Recovery college. I am a qualified personal trainer and I work as a Relief Youth Worker for Sphere 17. I previously volunteered with Jigsaw youth mental health service for 3 years as a Youth Advocate. I am happy to be here as I believe strongly in the value and importance of Community Development work. I am excited to experience new ways of looking at mental health recovery and feel there is great importance in developing a sense of belonging within your community which can aid in the recovery process. I believe it is important to challenge the stigma around mental health and to encourage people to be open and honest about their emotions particularly young men. Human beings have a deep desire for a sense of belonging and ownership and it is encouraging to see the Recovery college promoting these key concepts in their practice.
